Project Overview:  In light of the ongoing challenges faced by women and girls in the rural and mountainous areas of Agadir Ida Outanan province, especially those related to illiteracy and social and economic exclusion, the Forum of Competencies for Development and Democracy launched an ambitious project named “Tifawt,” which means “light” in the Amazigh language. This project is strategically aimed at contributing to the reduction of illiteracy and strengthening the capacities of women and young girls to enable their effective integration into public life.

The project is implemented in partnership with the National Agency for the Fight Against Illiteracy and spans from 2020 to 2027. It covers several territorial communities within the province, targeting vulnerable groups of women and youth, particularly in marginalized areas.

Tifawt is based on the strong belief that fighting illiteracy goes beyond teaching reading and writing; it also includes enhancing life and professional skills, promoting civic participation, and embedding principles of justice and equality. Therefore, the project is structured around three complementary components:

• Functional literacy for women, providing theoretical and practical lessons tailored to the daily and social contexts of the beneficiaries, enabling them to acquire reading, writing, and arithmetic skills in a practical and useful manner.

• Post-literacy training, which involves organizing workshops and training courses in professional fields aligned with local labor market needs, thus offering women real opportunities to access income-generating activities and achieve economic independence.

• Literacy for young girls, specifically targeting out-of-school or dropout girls, through flexible educational pathways and pedagogical support that restore their right to learning and open new avenues for participation and social integration.

General Objective of the Project:
To empower women and young girls in the rural and mountainous areas of Agadir Ida Outanan province with literacy and vocational skills, to enhance their active participation in local development and achieve social and economic empowerment.
