Consultative System of the Agadir Municipality

Project Title: Civil Society and Participatory Democracy
Project Location: Agadir Municipality and Imsouane Municipality
Project implementation period: March 2019 to October 2020
Project Overview:

The Consultative System Project of the Municipality of Agadir is a local initiative within the broader framework of the project “Civil Society and Participatory Democracy in the Souss-Massa Region,” implemented by the Migration & Development Association in partnership with the South Women’s Association and the Youth Initiatives Forum, with support from the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD).

This project aims to establish an effective and institutionalized consultative system within the municipality of Agadir, promoting the participation of citizens and civil society organizations in the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of local development programs, in line with Article 139 of the 2011 Constitution.

The project is based on three main components:

  • Strengthening the capacities of local actors in participatory democracy and consultation mechanisms.
  • Empowering the population by providing tools and mechanisms to participate in the management of local affairs.
  • Evaluating and enhancing the role of consultative bodies, particularly the Commission for Equality of Opportunity and Gender Approach, to ensure their efficiency and impact.

This project constitutes an important step toward promoting transparency and good governance through meaningful citizen participation in local development processes.

General Objective of the Project: To activate the consultation system in the Agadir and Imsouane municipalities within the framework of participatory democracy mechanisms.
Target Groups:
  • Civil society actors
  • Elected representatives
